When purchasing a new convertible sofa, one thing you'll have to decide is what color you want. A rule of thumb in the design world is to always choose neutral upholstery for couches and chairs so it can serve as a backdrop for any color scheme or decor design you choose. However, not everyone is going to be happy with boring beige. Maybe you want a red sofa bed, and honestly no one can tell you not to buy one. There are ways to fulfill your need for bright color while staying on the conservative side.

For example, if you are planning on spending quite a bit of money on your sofa sleeper, consider buying a neutral sofa and covering it with a red slipcover. That way if you do ever get sick of red you can easily remove it without having to replace the entire sofa. While the reverse is also true, you will probably be happier with a neutral couch and a red slipcover rather than a red couch with a neutral slipcover. Also, red is a hard color to find when it comes to traditional sofas. However, there are some rooms in which it would work wonderfully.

If the majority of your room is neutral in tone (such as black or beige) and you want a pop of color, a red sofa can be ideal. You may want to add some coordinating touches like vases, wall hangings or even candles to match the sofa but don't go overboard because red is a very strong color that can be overwhelming. Also, choose one shade of red and stick with it rather than mixing different reds like blue based red and yellow based red.
